Clifford and Louise Troyer Scholarship Fund
Cliff and Louise Troyer own Troyer Farms, a western Pennsylvania snack food company, with products going to other states.
Cliff was the only one of five children in his Waterford, PA family to attend Goshen College. We felt Goshen was “the right place to go.” Cliff spent a year and a half at Goshen (1949-1951), but an auto accident on his way back to school kept him from finishing his pre-veterinary degree. He then worked for his family’s dairy and potato farm and purchased land with his brother, Cletus before beginning a service assignment in a hospital in Bloomington, IL, in 1955. Louise was serving as a student nurse in that same hospital.
Louise grew up in Forest, IL near Bloomington. She had no Mennonite background but came to the hospital because it had a good reputation for “turning out good nurses.”
Cliff and Louise met, married and returned to Pennsylvania. Cliff and Cletus farmed and began producing chips. The business grew, making a variety of snack food products. Cliff took over the operation and later acquired other chip food companies.
Cliff said that he learned so much from his Goshen College education that they sent their four children for at least a year each. Their goal is to make education at Goshen College accessible to students now and for years to come.
