2018-19 Union Building Renovation & Revitalization
Completed: September 2019!
The Goshen College Commons Project in the Union Building: The Crossroads of Campus
The Goshen College Commons Project will begin to revitalize the historic Union
Building and offer vibrant, innovative and engaging space for welcoming newcomers,
encouraging discourse, building relationships and serving as a witness to the impact
that Goshen College has in the world and in the community.
Welcoming all to campus
Juanita Lark Welcome Center
The Juanita Lark Welcome Center will relocate to the south end of the Union as a new campus entrance and become a bright and inviting first point of welcome, invitation and hospitality for all visitors to campus, including prospective students. A partnership with the Community Foundation of Elkhart County helps make this possible.
Celebrating global citizenship
The Hunsberger Haitian Art Collection
During the 50th anniversary of Study-Service Term (SST) in 2018-19, one part of the celebration will include incorporating Arlin and Naomi Hunsberger’s Haitian Art Collection — one of the finest Haitian art collections in the Midwest — into the Goshen College Commons Project. In this space, the collection of 90+ valuable pieces can be fully accessible to the campus and the public.
Building local community
Leaf Raker Cafe
In partnership with AVI Foodsystems, the cafe will be updated and improved to become a dining facility accessible and inviting to the broader community, as well as campus members, and will include an attractive outdoor seating terrace.
