Norman S. Gingerich Scholarship
Norman S. Gingrich was a native of Ontario, Canada, but lived his later years in Northern Indiana. He had an early interest in Mennonite education and was a part-time teacher of business at Elkhart Institute.

John J. and Pauline Clemens Fisher rooted their long and interesting lives at Goshen College. Influenced by the education they received as undergraduates and their subsequent experiences as part of Goshen’s faculty community, John (1926-2014) and Pauline (1926-2018) embraced the college motto “Culture for Service.”
The Burkholders’ interest in peace, justice and social concerns and the impact Goshen College has had on their family was the motivation behind the Clarence and Blanche Burkholder Scholarship. Clarence arranged for this scholarship fund about a year before his death which took place in December of 1992.
Although family circumstances at the time hindered my grandfather, Prahlad Rai Biyani, from continuing his education beyond high school, he supported and sponsored the education of several individuals in his lifetime.
In 2012, David and Sandy decided to create this endowed scholarship fund to encourage the best physics students, as evidenced by the high school class standing, grade-point averages and test scores, to attend Goshen College and to enhance the reputation and academic excellence of physics at GC.
Mary E. Bender was born in Elkhart County, Indiana to Harold S. and Elizabeth Bender. She attended Goshen College for a year (1945-46) and then spent some time in Switzerland before returning to Goshen to finish her bachelor’s degree in English and German in 1950.
Ora and Grace Yoder have distinguished themselves as family, church and community leaders. They were born in northern Indiana (December 17, 1906 and June 19, 1910 respectively) in LaGrange and Elkhart County. Both have been influenced by the church and community life of their times.
And so, a lifetime of interesting experiences and solid commitment to college, church and community has culminated in the Yoder Scholarship for Goshen College students. It is a fitting tribute—--to the college, to each student recipient, to the need for quality teaching, and to the donors themselves, who were genuinely interested in them all.
For almost 20 years, an endowment that Frank and Betty Jo Yoder established has brought renowned speakers from all across the United States to Goshen College.
Sisters Kathryn and Pauline Yoder knew they were interested in teaching, but who could have predicted they would teach a combined total of 72 years in Ohio and Indiana? That interest was planted in their early childhoods, nurtured at Goshen College, and came to full flower during those years of service and hard work in the classroom.
