Arrival
After traveling 37 hours from the Goshen College campus, students arrived in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, tired but with a lot of excitement and anticipation for the semester ahead. They were welcomed warmly by the staff of Duta Wacana Christian University who are helping with our program.
After a night of rest, the first day was spent enjoying good Indonesian food and participating in several orientation activities.
They received information about their host families, heard a presentation on health issues from one of our unit doctors, had another presentation on cultural dos and don’ts, and spent time setting up local phones that they will use for communication as well as for transportation services.
Then it was a bus ride to the main campus to meet their host families and spend the rest of the weekend with them. Photos of each student with individual host families will come later.
This campus will be our point of reference for the first six weeks of language study, lectures, and field trips.
