The ISGA Hosts History Writing Webinars
In March and April, the Institute for the Study of Global Anabaptism (ISGA) hosted the workshop “Writing the Stories of our Faith Communities,” facilitated by Mexican sociologist and historian Carlos Martínez García. Targeted to Latin American Anabaptists who wanted to learn how to write the stories of their own faith communities or of important people and leaders, the four workshop sessions were attended by more than ten people from different countries.
The participants were able to learn from the vast experience of Carlos Martínez García as a writer and historian. Martínez not only shared his knowledge and experience but also motivated the participants to begin identifying the topic, field, and plan of their research proposal. One of the research proposals focused on the history of Anabaptist groups in Ecuador and their relationship with indigenous communities; another focused on the actions of Mennonite churches during the armed conflict.
The ISGA aims to continue to support this work of compiling the history of Anabaptist communities in Latin America and will remain in conversation with workshop participants. ISGA Research Fellow Luis Tapia Rubio, who coordinated the workshop, will continue to facilitate story collection.

Talleres
Durante los meses de Marzo y Abril del presente año, el Instituto para el estudio del anabautismo global (ISGA, por sus siglas en inglés) llevo a cabo el taller “Escribiendo las historias de nuestras comunidades de fe”, facilitado por el sociólogo e historiador mexicano Carlos Martínez García. El taller estaba dirigido principalmente a personas de iglesias Anabautistas en Latinoamérica que deseaban aprender a escribir las historias de sus propias comunidades de fe y/o de personas y líderes/as importantes dentro de ellas. En el taller, que se desarrolló en cuatro sesiones durante cuatro sábados por la mañana, participaron más de diez personas de distintos países de América Latina.
Los y las participantes pudieron aprender de la vasta experiencia de Carlos Martínez García como escritor e historiador, quien no sólo expuso sus conocimientos y experiencias sino que también motivo a los y las participantes a comenzar a pensar sobre el tema, el campo y el plan de su propuesta de investigación. Algunas de las propuestas que surgieron como posibles temas de investigación fueron: la historia de los grupos anabautistas en Ecuador y su relación con las comunidades indígenas, el accionar de las iglesias Menonitas durante el conflicto armado en Colombia, y varios otros más.
ISGA tiene como objetivo seguir apoyando este trabajo de recopilación de la historia de nuestras comunidades anabautistas en América Latina, y para ello seguirá en contacto con los potenciales escritores y escritoras que participaron en este taller. El investigador del ISGA, Luis Tapia Rubio, será quien seguirá facilitado este trabajo de recopilación de historias.
