Primary Responsibility:

A Gallery Monitor’s primary responsibility is ensuring the safety and security of artwork and visitors within the Museum’s galleries. They greet visitors, provide information about exhibits, answer inquiries, and assist with special needs. Additionally, they may be responsible for maintaining the appearance of the galleries, including dusting, sweeping, and emptying trash.

 Key Responsibilities:
·        Visitor Assistance: Greet visitors, provide information about exhibitions, answer questions, and provide guidance, including directing visitors to exits or offer instructions in emergencies.
·        Assist patrons with special needs.
·        Security and Safety: Observe visitors, monitor galleries to prevent theft or damage to artwork, and exhibits and to ensure the safety of museum visitors.
·        Maintain order and ensure adherence to safety rules, reporting suspicious activity or potential security issues to appropriate personnel.
·        Assist with crowd control during peak times and special events.
·        Enforce museum policies and guidelines to maintain a respectful and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
·        Appearance Maintenance: Dust, sweep, and empty trash as needed to maintain a clean and presentable gallery environment.
·        Knowledgeable about Exhibitions: Stay informed about current exhibitions, dates, and special events.
·        Reporting: Report any issues or concerns to the appropriate staff member.
·        Other Duties: May be required to assist with exhibit installation and dismantling.
·        Perform other tasks as needed.

·        Courteousness and Helpfulness: A friendly and helpful attitude is essential for interacting with visitors.
·        Observational Skills: Good observation skills are necessary for noticing potential issues or concerns.
·        Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication is crucial for answering visitor questions and providing information.
·        Assist Museum Staff as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

·        High School Diploma or equivalent required.

·        Previous experience working in an art gallery or museum is preferred

·        Previous experience in customer service and security preferred.

·        Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with visitors and staff.

·        Ability to interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures.

·        Ability to remain calm and composed in varying situations, with excellent judgment and discretion.

·        Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and move around the museum.

·        Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

·        Availability to work some nights and weekends, as required.

 Physical Requirements
·        Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

·        Must be able to physically monitor galleries, which may include walking, standing, kneeling, or climbing.
