John has a joint appointment spanning the Environmental Sciences Department and the Sustainability and Environmental Education Department. He also directs the Merry Lea Teaching Farm and the fall Sustainability Semester in Residence at Merry Lea. John teaches in both undergraduate programs and the masters of environmental education; courses include GIS/remote sensing, climate change, soil science, botany, agroecology/food systems, and upper level undergraduate research.
He is broadly trained as a biogeochemist and uses his expertise across a range of systems including prairie soils, parasite/host systems, and regenerative agriculture in general. John participates as part of local food councils and non profits as part of his outreach.
