Lavender Jazz Spring Concert
Goshen College's Lavender Jazz band will perform their spring concert in Umble Center on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Have you ever thought about studying music in college? Goshen College loves music. When you enroll in GC’s supportive and rigorous music major or minor, you will find that your classmates love to be surrounded by music and are dedicated to mastering it. At GC, you will hear hymns sung in four-part harmony in the campus’ chapel and on soccer field bleachers.
At GC, music majors and minors can expect a well-rounded education. You will receive an education grounded in the classical tradition while also immersed in various styles.
We offer one of the most outstanding programs for undergraduate music students who wish to work in the music business or perfect their instruments through music performance. Goshen College music students have gone on to music technology, music publishing, recording technology, film music editing, teaching music and private lessons, performance emphasis, music promotion, music production, and music therapy.
Music classes are held in the Music Center, a concert facility known for its world-class acoustics. Sauder Concert Hall has been described as one of the top concert halls in the country, while Rieth Recital Hall is home to an immaculate Taylor and Boody pipe organ, complete with 1,600 resounding pipes.
Music students will become well acquainted with performing in these esteemed halls, whether with chamber groups, large ensembles, or as a soloist. Our students grow their skills in a community as members of one of our fine ensembles: Chamber Choir, Lavender Jazz, Symphony Orchestra, Vox Profundi (low voice chorus), and Voices of the Earth (high voice chorus).
Goshen College music students receive an education grounded in the classical tradition while also immersed in world musical cultures, jazz studies, living composers, folk music, and church music of many styles. Our music program emphasizes music theory, music history, ear training, music therapy, music composition, and music literature. The diverse expertise and breadth of knowledge of our music professors ensures that students excel in their primary instrument and area of concentration while deepening their understanding and skills in music theory and history.
Our courses are designed for music majors who want to pursue a career in the world of music or want to minor in music to master their instrument. The music major and minor is also an excellent complement to other majors and programs at Goshen College. In many circumstances, a double major is not only achievable but rewarding.
Goshen College music majors are readily accepted into graduate school and other music programs to pursue their desired vocation. From a music producer to a music educator, the options are limitless for career paths or graduate degrees.
We would be happy to speak more with you about your musical interests and how you can pursue them at GC. Financial aid is available.
