The first day of classes at Goshen College for 2004-05 academic year on Aug. 25 opened with President Shirley H. Showalter's welcoming address to campus. Titled "The Meaning of Life," she called students to develop a meaningful personal philosophy.
In the just-released 2005 U.S.News & World Report "America's Best Colleges" rankings, Goshen College placed solidly in the third tier of the Best Liberal Arts Colleges category for the fourth straight year and was recognized for program strengths that come from the school's commitment to global citizenship and servant leadership.
The fiscal health of Goshen College continues to be strong as donors gave beyond the college's financial contribution goal during the 2003-04 financial year and reaffirmed the value of the school's educational excellence and Christ-centered core.
In times of change, there is both challenge and opportunity, said Virgil Miller, chair of the Goshen College Board of Directors. Taking on an immediate challenge, the Board's Executive Committee and Goshen College President's Council, with the support of Mennonite Education Agency, have been working together to plan for the college's presidential transition following the resignation of President Shirley H. Showalter.
Chair of Goshen College's Board of Directors Virgil Miller announced today to college faculty, staff and students that President Shirley H. Showalter is resigning her position in order to join the Fetzer Institute of Kalamazoo, Mich.
