Nocturnal animals will be out and about at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College during the 24th annual Enchanted Forest on Oct. 25 and 26 from 7-8:30 p.m.

Located at Wolf Lake, Ind., Merry Lea will offer its annual alternative to Halloween later this month. This child-friendly and environmentally friendly evening consists of a guided hike by the light of lanterns to meet and hear from friendly nighttime animals in their natural habitat. Costumed actors will play the roles of a raccoon, a deer, a skunk and other local nocturnal wildlife. The night also includes music, entertainment and refreshments, and costs $2.50 per person.

Merry Lea will also host the 4th Annual “El Bosque Encantado,” a Spanish language adaptation of the Enchanted Forest, at Shanklin Park’s Schrock Pavilion in Goshen on October 18 from 7-8:30 p.m. Cost is $1 per person.

The mission of Merry Lea’s K-12 programming is to facilitate experiences in the outdoor world, which inspire exploration and foster a sense of wonder. It also aims to share information about ecosystems and natural processes of northeastern Indiana, while provoking interest in life-long investigation and encouraging stewardship.
