Jan Dean

My sculptures are about the connections between people, the binding. Each one, like Yorick’s skull, is intended to be held in contemplation. Each is a different perspective reflecting what holds people together or apart.

Elfa Jonsdottir

I had not really thought about it, but then it struck me that binding is an incredibly powerful word. Thoughts and actions, as well as places traveled, bind the threads that weave together who we are and how we view the world and ourselves within it.

Artist Bios:

Jan Dean

Jan Dean is a South Bend native with 20 years vested in Chicago. A graduate of Cranbrook she has taught for 25 years, a recipient of 2 CAAP grants, 4 residencies and exhibited at The National Museum for Women in D.C., The State of IL Gallery in Chicago, ArtPrize Grand Rapids and many more. Elfa Jonsdottir

Elfa Jónsdóttir originally studied textile in Iceland and later obtained a masters degree from RISD, was a visiting artist in the Art School at the U of M. While at Wooster Center for Crafts, Elfa ventured into ceramics, producing her installation “Dwellings.” After moving back to the Midwest she has taken up textile again. She has had one-artist exhibitions and group exhibitions in several galleries in the Midwest and on the East Coast.
