Goshen College’s top scholarship recipients named for 2018-19
Goshen College has announced the 39 recipients of the school’s 2018-19 top scholarships for incoming first-year students.
Eight college-bound students are being offered the President’s Leadership Award (PLA), which is the college’s top merit scholarship. The PLA is given in recognition of outstanding academic performance and promise in potential leadership. The award is a full-tuition scholarship (worth $33,700 in 2018-19), renewable for eight semesters based on academic performance
The 2018 PLA selections, who will receive the scholarship upon enrollment at Goshen College, are:
- Emma Burton, of Tualatin, Oregon, will graduate from Tualatin High School. She plans to study music.
- Claire Franz, of Lakewood, Colorado, will graduate from Lakewood High School. She plans to study social work.
- Joshua Friesen, of Normal, Illinois, will graduate from University High School. He plans to study molecular biology/biochemistry.
- Jacob Garcia, of Milford, Indiana, will graduate from Wawasee High School. He plans to study engineering physics.
- Anya Igel, of Estes Park, Colorado, will graduate from Estes Park High School. She plans to study American Sign Language education.
- Adriana Martinez Diaz De Leon, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. She plans to study psychology.
- Jehan Wagenaar, of Xenia, Ohio, will graduate from Wagenaar Academy of Excellence. He plans to study engineering physics.
- Kenaniah Williamson, of New Castle, Indiana, will graduate from New Castle High School. He plans to study biology.
Ten students are being offered the Intercultural Leader Award. The Intercultural Leadership Award is for incoming first-generation students of color who have demonstrated a distinguished academic record and leadership potential. The scholarship is for up to $80,000 total ($20,000 per year), and is renewable for a total of eight consecutive semesters based on academic performance and program participation.
The students who will receive the Intercultural Leader Awards upon enrollment at Goshen College are:
- Jessica Bachtell, of Chula Vista, California, will graduate from Sweetwater Union High School. She plans to study elementary education.
- Noelia Calderon Amezola, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. She plans to study molecular biology/biochemistry.
- Stephanie Covarrubias Palomino, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Onyea Cummings, of Indianapolis, Indiana, will graduate from Herron High School. She plans to study theater.
- Yadira Diaz, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Ariana Herrera Fernandez, of Goshen Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Ta’Sharick Johnson, of Waukegan, Illinois, will graduate from Waukegan High School. Her anticipated major is still being decided.
- Jasmin Juarez, of Warsaw, Indiana, will graduate from Warsaw Community High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Ivan Ramos Manriquez, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Bethany Christian High School. He plans to study business.
- Aurelio Santiago, of Middlebury, Indiana, will graduate from Northridge High School. He plans to study environmental and marine science.
In addition, 21 high school seniors are being offered the Leader of Color Award, which is awarded to students of color who have demonstrated a distinguished academic record and leadership potential. The Leader of Color Award is worth $20,000 total ($5,000 per year), and is renewable for a total of eight consecutive semesters based on academic performance and program participation.
The students who will receive the Leader of Color Award upon enrollment at Goshen College are:
- Rudy Arroyo, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. He plans to study nursing.
- Ashley Arroyo, of Elkhart, Indiana, will graduate from Concord High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Anthony Beatriz, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. He plans to study elementary education.
- Gloria Bontrager-Thomas, of Milford, Delaware, will graduate from Milford Senior High School. She plans to study film production.
- Nicholas Davis, of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, will graduate from Angola High School. He plans to study environmental and marine science.
- Ronit Goswami, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Bethany Christian High School. He plans to study exercise science.
- Natalie Hazbun, of West Lafayette, Indiana, will graduate from West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School. She plans to study elementary education.
- Lizbeth Hernandez, of Ligonier, Indiana, will graduate from West Noble High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Cecilia Jeschke, of Hilo, Hawaii, will graduate from Waiakea High School. Her anticipated major is still being decided.
- Nayeli Munoz, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Bryan Olvera, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. He plans to study exercise science.
- Abraham Parga, of Elkhart, Indiana, will graduate from Elkhart Central High School. He plans to study elementary education.
- Armando Pina, of Oxnard, California, will graduate from Channel Islands High School. He plans to study business.
- Kate Ramirez Ingold, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Bethany Christian High School. She plans to study molecular biology/biochemistry.
- Bethy Ramirez-Sanchez, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, will graduate from Cristo Rey High School. Her anticipated major is still being decided.
- Miranda Reyes Flores, of Goshen, Indiana, will graduate from Goshen High School. She plans to study nursing.
- Stephanie Szumilas, of Spring Valley, California, will graduate from Mount Miguel High School. She plans to study exercise science.
- Maria Vargas, or Chicago, Illinois, will graduate from Marine Leadership Academy. She plans to study business.
- Eric Weaver, of Hyattsville, Maryland, will graduate from Northwestern High School. He plans to study exercise science.
- Jonathon Ying, of Kokomo, Indiana, will graduate from Kokomo High School. He plans to study psychology.
- Ainzlee Zou, of Bristol, Indiana, will graduate from Concord High School. She plans to study music.
