Mariachi Herencia de Mexico to bring traditional Mexican sounds to Goshen College

A youth ensemble from Chicago’s Mexican-American barrios, Mariachi Herencia de Mexico will bring their traditional Mexican music to Goshen College’s Sauder Concert Hall on Friday, Sept. 13 to kick of the 2019-20 Performing Arts Series.
Tickets are $30, $25, $20 and can be purchased through the Goshen College Box Office (boxoffice.goshen.edu, 574.535.7566) or online.
The group’s debut album, Nuestra Herencia, which was released in May 2017, rocketed them to success, hitting number two on the iTunes Latin music chart and pointing to a revival in recorded mariachi music. The album received a Latin Grammy Award nomination in 2017, attracted local and national news coverage, and created demand for appearances around the country.
The group released their second album, Herencia De La Tierra Mia, in May 2018. The CD debuted at number two on the Billboard charts and at number one on iTunes.
The group has performed in a number of major mariachi festivals in Chicago, Orlando, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and in Guadalajara, Mexico’s mariachi capital. They have also performed in spaces such as the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C..
Mariachi Herencia de Mexico has performed alongside major artists such as Lila Downs, Los Lobos and Pedro Fernandez, as well as some of the most respected mariachi groups from both the U.S. and Mexico, including Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan and Reyna de Los Angeles, showing that this group of students have the talent and bravado to hold their own among the best in the industry.
