The Goshen College Choirs and Orchestra will join together in a performance of Johannes Brahms’ epic Requiem on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall.
Performing will be the newly-renamed Voices of the Earth (formerly Women’s World Music Choir), directed by Marcia Yost, director of the arts; Vox Profundi (formerly Men’s Choir) and Chamber Choir, both directed by Scott Hochstetler, professor of music; along with the Goshen College Orchestra, under the direction of Brian Mast, Music Center executive director.
The Brahms Requiem performance will be performed in memory of Dr. Debra Detweiler, Goshen College Professor of Music who died this past April.
“The Brahms is powerful. It’s…a very fine and appropriate way to give her some needed honor,” Yost said.
Hochstetler is hoping the concert will help provide closure.
“It’s not a requiem for the dead as much as it is a requiem for the living… and so that’s why [the Requiem] involves all the orchestra, all the singers, and we even have some community members that are joining us,” Hochstetler said.
Tickets are $12/adults, $8/seniors/students, and are available online at goshen.edu/tickets, or by contacting the Box Office at (574) 535-7566 or boxoffice@goshen.edu.
