Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble Seraphic Fire makes their return to Sauder Concert Hall for a Performing Arts Series concert Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. They group will also be recording their latest project while at Goshen.

Seraphic Fire brings together professional vocal and instrumental artists from around the country. The group performs repertoire ranging from Medieval chants and Baroque masterpieces to Brahms and commissions by top living composers. In 2012, two of the ensembles recordings, Brahms “Ein Deutsches Requiem” and “A Seraphic Fire Christmas” were nominated for Grammy awards.

The Miami-based ensemble will perform Ordo Virtutum, or “Play of the Virtues,” a medieval musical drama written by the 12th-century abbess Hildegard of Bingen, who is universally revered as one of the greatest minds of the Middle Ages. The women of Seraphic Fire bring this millennia-old masterpiece back to life. Told in Hildegard’s haunting plainchant composition, the piece struggles between the pull of the Virtues and of the Devil and features a cast including Mercy, Victory, Patience, Discretion and Charity.

Touted for its “spellbinding, hypnotic” sound by the South Florida Classical Review, Seraphic Fire’s artistic accomplishments have led them to partnerships with The Cleveland Orchestra, New World Symphony, and The Sebastians.

Seraphic Fire has a commitment to community well-being and musician advancement through educational programs for South Florida’s underserved elementary students, as well as rising music professionals at a number of higher education institutions.

Tickets for this performance cost $35, $30 and $25 and can be purchased online at goshen.edu/tickets or at the Box Office (boxoffice@goshen.edu, 574.535.7566).
