More than 75 professors and administrators from across the country met at Goshen College from June 24 to 27 for a conference, “The Heart of Higher Education: Living Between What Is and What Could Be,” in which the “inner authority” of educators emerged as a central theme. The conference drew deeply on the work of the teacher, author and activist Parker J. Palmer, who participated in a keynote conversation.

At the Mennonite Church USA convention in Kansas City, Jerrell and Jane Ross Richer and Sarah Augustine led a seminar called “Speaking to the Systems and Walking with Indigenous People.” The Richers work half the year with the Cofán people of eastern Ecuador, while in the other half Jerrell teaches at Goshen College.
