The Goshen College Theater Department will present its fall mainstage play, “Everybody” by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, on Friday, Nov. 11; Saturday, Nov. 12 and Saturday Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13 and Sunday Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m.

“Everybody” is recommended for children ages 13 and up due to adult language.

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ modern riff on the fifteenth-century morality play Everyman follows the character Everybody as they unravel humanity’s greatest mystery—the meaning of life. Everybody features ancient questions colliding with contemporary dilemmas and jokes that ricochet through serious conversations. Most actors choose their role by lottery at each performance. Who will be Everybody when you see the show? And who–or what–will accompany them to the next world? “Everybody” was a 2018 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

“GC Theater is thrilled to bring this dizzying existential comedy to the Umble stage. Our students gleefully tackle thought-provoking material to address big ideas and contradictions. Everybody delightfully connects disparate cultures and ideas.  After all, Black American playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins adapted a Medieval English text with Dutch roots and connections to the early Christian church and ancient Buddhist parables. He crafted it so that each role can be played by actors of any gender or ethnicity.”

Two professional guest artists, Sound Designer Zack Bennett and Scenic Designer Andrew Moeggenberg join GC faculty, staff, and students to bring this play to our stage.
