Goshen College is launching a new academic initiative, an Honors Program. It is designed to provide a transformative educational experience for high-achieving students and will launch in Fall 2024.
Author John D. Roth ’81, professor emeritus of history, brings the dynamic and often challenging story to life in chapters about the denominational relationships, international engagement, racial inclusion, gender and culture wars, LGBTQ+ inclusion, athletics, Latinx/Hispanic enrollment and Anabaptist stances toward patriotism and nationalism.
It is no secret and no surprise: Goshen College has been in many ways subverted – turned from below – by our inquiring and passionate students and faculty and the transformational changes they have brought about.
ON MARCH 4, 1969, Daniel (Dan) Leatherman ’58, associate professor of political science, sent a three-page resignation letter to President Paul Mininger ’34. Leatherman had distinguished himself academically as an undergrad and after studying at the University of Chicago, he returned to join the GC faculty in 1963.

Eleven percent of students at Goshen College are international students, coming from over thirty different countries around the world. Of that 11 percent, forty-eight are student-athletes. But, why did they choose GC? Proof that teachers and students can impact each other’s lives can be witnessed in the mutual admiration between educator Robina Sommers and her student Jason DuBois. Their relationship developed each of the four times Sommers had DuBois as a student.
