Goshen College launches new Honors Program fostering leadership, community and service opportunities for high-achieving students

GOSHEN, IND. — Goshen College is launching a new academic initiative, an Honors Program. It is designed to provide a transformative educational experience for high-achieving students and will launch in Fall 2024.

Participants in the Honors Program will benefit from a dynamic community cohort and a myriad of deep learning experiences, including various forms of research, specialty seminars, service and leadership opportunities and a capstone course.

“Our Honors Program gives students the opportunity to work with faculty and become acquainted with other students looking for greater challenges,” said Dr. Ann Vendrely, vice president for academic affairs. “I’m pleased to announce that Dr. Rob Brenneman, professor of criminal justice and sociology, will lead this new program.”

Brenneman brings a wealth of experience and passion for academic excellence from his time at Saint Michael’s College in Vermont, where he taught in an Honors Program and was on the Honors Advisory Committee.

“I see the Honors Program here at Goshen as an opportunity to cultivate a community of scholarship, curiosity and engagement that radiates throughout the campus,” said Brenneman. “I want to create a program for students that are excited about learning and dedicated to the hard work of understanding complex issues in a complex world.”

The program will begin with a cohort of incoming first-year students who will be chosen based on GPA (at least a 3.6 on a 4.0 scale) and a program application that will be due in early April. In subsequent years as the program develops, it will open up to all grades.
