Goshen College student winners of the 2023-24 Concerto-Aria Competition will perform their winning works in Sauder Concert Hall with the Goshen College Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Brunson.
The Sherer Trio is Goshen College’s resident chamber music ensemble. The Trio is composed of violinist Solomia Soroka, cellist Dato Machavariani and pianist Matthew Hill. The Sherer Trio is named for late Goshen College Professors Emeritus Lon & Kathryn Sherer, who taught for decades fostering musical excellence to generations of Goshen College students.
The Goshen College Choirs, directed by Scott Hochstetler and H. Roz Woll, will present their annual Winter Choral Concert in Sauder Concert Hall. Performing are the GC Chamber Choir, Vox Profundi (low voice) and Voices of the Earth (high voice).
Goshen College received a $489,915 implementation grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. as part of its Advancing the Science of Reading in Indiana (ASRI) initiative. The grant aims to enhance and expand Goshen College's teacher preparation programs and improve reading instruction on a state level.
The Atlee and Winifred Beechy Peace Lectureship on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. will feature Dr. Lisa Schirch speaking on “Tech and Social Transformation: The Best and Worst Impacts of Technology on Peace and Democracy in 2024” on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Umble Center. Schirch is a renowned expert in peacebuilding and technology.
Dr. Allan Rudy-Froese, a seminary professor of preaching and a certified voice coach , will be the Umble Master Class presenter at Goshen College and presenting a public keynote address, “Learning to Use Your Voice Well,” on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Umble Center. In this interactive presentation, he will share highlights of his voice coach training at Linklater Centre in Scotland. The event is free and open to the public.
Goshen College recently recognized 154 undergraduate students for excellence in academics on the 2023-24 fall semester Dean’s List.
It was nearly a full house at the Church-Chapel at Goshen College Monday for “King Celebration 2024: Black Housing and Unsung Sheroes.”
