Two Elkhart County youth orchestras to present fall concert Nov. 23

Tickets: $7 adults, $5 seniors/students, available at the door one hour before the concert. GC faculty/staff/students free with valid ID.

Young Elkhart County string and wind musicians in the Community School of the Arts (CSA) Youth Honors Orchestras, along with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Symphony, will perform during their annual fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall.

The Youth Honors Symphony Orchestra (YHSO) for grades 9-12, directed by Josh Aerie, will perform with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Symphony, conducted by David Cooke, in the first-ever musical collaboration by the two ensembles. The combined orchestra of 80 players will perform Franz Schubert’s “Symphony No. 8” (“Unfinished”) and the exciting “Carmen Suite No. 1” by Georges Bizet.

Kyle Miller, orchestra director at Pierre Moran Middle School, will make his debut as the new conductor of the Youth Honors Concert Orchestra (YHCO) for grades 7-9. The YHCO will perform an arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s majestic “March Slav,” as well as “Down by the Salley Gardens,” an Irish folk song.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors/students. Goshen College faculty, staff and students are admitted free with ID.

Selected by audition, the YHO musicians provide excellent leadership in their music programs at these area schools: Bethany Christian Schools, Concord Jr. High, Concord High School, Elkhart Central High School, Elkhart Memorial High School, Goshen Middle School, Goshen High School, Northridge High School, North Side Middle School, Pierre Moran Middle School, West Side Middle School and Warsaw Community High School.
