Hochstelter, Dengler Kaufman and Seitz will present a mixed program of solo and ensemble repertoire, including works by Mozart, Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, Alessandro Scarlatti, Samuel Barber, Gilbert and Sullivan, and more. Soprano Sandra Hill will also perform as a guest musician.

Pizza and Parables Youth Event
6:30 p.m., Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall and lobby
Area youth groups are invited to join Parables, a Goshen College student worship team, for an evening of free pizza, music, original drama and sharing from the students’ faith journeys. There will be time at the end for youth groups to gather for announcements, sharing or prayer. Current students and admission representatives will be available throughout the evening to answer questions.

Faculty Recital Series: Charles Castleman

Eastman School of Music professor of violin Charles Castleman will present a recital of violin music featuring works by J.S. Bach, Spohr, Brahms, Piazzola and Ysaye. Guest musicians include Solomia Soroka, violin, and Arthur Greene, piano. Castleman has been soloist with the orchestras of Philadelphia, Boston, Brisbane, Chicago, Hong Kong, Moscow, Mexico City, New York, San Francisco, Seoul and Shanghai.

55th Annual Concerto-Aria Concert

Goshen College student winners of the 2014-15 Concerto-Aria Competition will perform with the Goshen College Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Feb. 7. Performers include Jorge Abreu Toyens, violin; Joshua Bungart, tenor; Miranda Earnhart, soprano; Sadie Gustafson-Zook, soprano; Blake Shetler, piano; Seth Yoder, piano; and Paul Zehr, baritone.

Performing Arts Series: The Peking Acrobats
7:30 p.m., Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall
An act unlike any other in this series, the Peking Acrobats bring their daring maneuvers, precarious balancing acts, trick-cycling and precision gymnastics to the Sauder stage, accompanied by live traditional Chinese musicians. Known as the “hundred entertainments” during the Han Dynasty, the Peking Acrobats have redefined the art of Chinese acrobatics.

Winter One Acts: student-directed plays

Goshen College’s Winter One Acts include three new plays written, directed, designed and acted by GC students. The plays take both a humorous and serious look at ideas and issues in U.S. popular culture. The opening night will be ASL-interpreted.

Science Olympiad Regional Tournament
All day, various locations throughout campus
Teams from area middle and high schools will gather on the Goshen College campus on Feb. 14 to compete in a Science Olympiad Regional Tournament. Modeled after the Olympic games, participating schools field teams of 15 students who compete in 23 science events at invitational, regional, state and national competitions. Some events require students to build a model bridge, machine, or protein that they demonstrate. All events require students to exhibit their knowledge of science in an applied manner. Goshen College students, faculty and staff, and members of the local community serve as judges and volunteers.

C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest

Five Goshen College students will give speeches about issues close to their hearts during the college’s 2015 C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest. Each participant will step to the lectern to deliver an 8- to 10-minute speech on their chosen topic relating to peace, in a universal or specific context, including war and violence, political policies, agencies of justice and peace, peacemaking strategies or current events. The addresses are judged on originality, the integration of topic and a peace position and general standards of delivery.

Vocal performance: The Real Group
7:30 p.m., Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall
Swedish vocal ensemble The Real Group will present a concert in Sauder Concert Hall on Thursday, Feb. 19. The concert is sponsored by the Goshen College Performing Arts Series.
The Real Group is a professional a cappella group from Sweden, consisting of five members: Emma Nilsdotter, Katarina Henryson, Anders Edenroth, Morten Vinther Sørensen and Anders Jalkéus. With the voice as their sole instrument, they have created a unique musical expression in the field between jazz, pop and Nordic European choir music. The group has been touring the world for more than 28 years.

College Goal Sunday

Goshen College will host a College Goal Sunday event on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 2-4 p.m. in Goshen College’s Union Building. Financial aid professionals and other volunteers will be available to offer free assistance to local students and their families in completing the 2014-15 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is required for students to be considered for federal and state grants, loans and scholarships at most colleges, universities and vocational/technical schools nationwide and must be filed by March 10 to be eligible for state aid.
This event is free and open to any student, even if the student is not considering attending Goshen College. Parking is available by College Mennonite Church.

Lunch and Launch (Your Business)
11:30 a.m., Goshen College Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall
J Sider, a Goshen College alumnus and founder of BandPage, will present insights on starting a new business at Goshen College’s “Lunch and Launch (Your Business)” networking event on Feb. 27. The luncheon, hosted by the Adult and Continuing Studies program, will take place in the Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall from 11:30-1 p.m.
Young professionals are invited to attend this luncheon to learn more about starting and running a successful business. In an exclusive video conference with J Sider, participants will hear how Sider worked his way up from mopping floors at small concert venues to founding one of the nation’s most successful music marketing companies.
