Goshen College receives best giving to operating budget in 17 years, despite the economy

GOSHEN, Ind. – More Goshen College students will have the opportunity to learn and thrive in the coming year due to the generosity of supporters. During the 2009-10 fiscal year – which ended June 30 – the largest amount of donations was given to the Goshen College Fund in 17 years.

During this fiscal year, Vice President for Institutional Advancement Jim Caskey reported the Goshen College Fund reached a total of $2,137,668, which is $237,457 more than was given last year toward this unrestricted fund and directly supporting the college’s operating budget.

President James E. Brenneman said, “:We are thankful to our many friends for the ways that this giving will continue to support each of our students – whether they are conducting research at our environmental center, serving here in our community or studying in Egypt.”

Overall giving to Goshen College also increased slightly from last year, totaling $3,610,535 in contributions. This total includes the GC Fund as well as gifts for specific purposes or the endowment. Contributing toward the overall giving were 4,366 total donor households. The college received a record response of $341,393 during the year through phonathon gifts.

“The generosity of Goshen College supporters is both humbling and very encouraging, especially in these difficult economic times,” Caskey said.
