Alumni Board Recognition: 2015-16 Goshen College Women’s Basketball Team
The Goshen College Alumni Board issues this proclamation of support and congratulations to the 2015-16 Goshen College Women’s Basketball team, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Stephanie Miller.
We congratulate the team for finishing the regular season with a 23-7 record, which matched the most regular-season victories in school history.
We celebrate the team’s achievement of a top 25 ranking for nine weeks, reaching as high as 15th in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, the highest rating of any Goshen women’s team in school history.
We applaud their 15-3 record in Crossroads League play, the most conference wins in program history. This included finishing the regular season second in the league and defeating Marian University, the conference champion and #3 team in the nation.
We cheer their national-tournament berth — only the second in program history — and their 85-82 win over Concordia (Neb.) on March 9 as the first national-tournament win for any Goshen team, men or women.
We recognize that no Goshen player or coach had been named first-team all-conference or coach of the year since 2004. We commend the Maple Leafs for the following post-season awards, bestowed by the conference coaches:
- Co-coach of the year: Coach Stephanie Miller
- First Team All-Conference: Sophia Sears
- Second Team All-Conference: Gabby Williams
- Third Team All-Conference: Tyra Carver
- All-Conference Honorable Mention: Jo’Mani Thomas
We cheer for seniors Tyra Carver, Jo’Mani Thomas and Liz Tecca who all reached the 1,000 point plateau, and again for Liz Tecca who was recognized as an NAIA Champion of Character, and for each of the three team members who were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
We rejoice in the accomplishments of this stellar team, who have broken at least 27 Goshen College athletic records, more than one-sixth of all records across 15 categories in the school’s career record books.
And so, on this day, March 11, 2016, the Alumni Board of Goshen College is proud to extend our most enthusiastic congratulations to the Goshen College Women’s Basketball team, in recognition of their accomplishments in the 2015-2016 season. We cheered from a distance on campus, and we look forward to celebrating all that each team member will go on to accomplish as alumni. Go Goshen, go!
