WGCS nominated for Best College Radio Station in the Nation for seventh year

For the seventh consecutive year, Goshen College’s radio station, 91.1 FM The Globe, has been nominated as a finalist for “Best College Radio Station in the Nation” by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems, having won twice (2011 and 2013), the first station in the country to claim the title more than once.

“The culture of excellence runs deep within our students,” said Jason Samuel, WGCS general manager and assistant professor of communication. “They respond to our remarkable Goshen College and Communication Department faculty with passion and initiative. I am always amazed by their hard work and talent.”

In addition to the prestigious nomination for The Globe, nine different students earned finalist recognitions in 12 categories, and the Globe staff were finalists in four categories. The finalists include:

• Victor Garcia, a 2016 graduate, for Best Station Contest Promotion.
• Dalton Shetler, a 2016 graduate, for Best Men’s Basketball Play-By-Play.
• JD Hershberger, a senior broadcasting major from Hesston, Kansas, for Best On-Air Personality, Most Creative Show, Best Celebrity Interview, Best Radio Drama and Best Comedy Program.
• Andrew Snyder, a senior broadcasting major from Goshen, for Best Play-By-Play (Soccer).
• Spencer Buttermore, a junior broadcasting major from Waterloo, Indiana, for Best Sports Update.
• Laura Hoover, a sophomore broadcasting and film production major from Chesterton, Indiana, for Best Radio Drama and Best Radio Drama (solo).
• Colin Samuel, a sophomore broadcasting and film production major from Goshen, for Best Live Broadcast Promotional Event.
• Lucia Nisly, a first-year interdisciplinary and peace, justice and conflict studies major from Partridge, Kansas, for Best Campus News.
• Demetria Towns, a first-year broadcasting and music major from Jeffersonville, Indiana, for Best Campus News.

This year IBS will host their 77th annual International Conference in New York City March 3-5, 2017.
