Chamber Choir to present madrigals, folk songs and sacred music Feb. 7
GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College Chamber Choir will perform a solo concert in the new Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall Friday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m.
The program, originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 8, will feature a variety of choral literature from Renaissance madrigals, to Brahms folk songs to sacred music.
The 22-voice choral ensemble performs in churches and schools across the country. In 1999 the Chamber Choir sang a solo concert in Carnegie Hall, New York City. Professor of Music Doyle Preheim is the conductor of the choir and Mary Jo Preheim will accompany at the piano.
The first half of the concert will be performed in the way in which madrigals were originally sung – informally around tables following a meal. After intermission, the choir will sing from the risers.
The concert will feature three student conductors. Jessie Sark (Jr., Millersburg, Ind.) will conduct two English madrigals; Julia Hershberger (Jr., Canton, Ohio) will conduct “Four Gypsy Songs” by Brahms; and Julian Gingerich (Sr., Hubbard, Ore.) will direct “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl.
Vocal soloists in the concert are Kristen Catalano (Sr., Elkhart, Ind.), Rehanna Kheshgi (Sr., Evanston, Ill.), Matthew Fisher (Sr., Goshen) and Tom Kelley (Sr., Goshen).
The concert is free and open to the public.
