A MacArthur Fellow and GRAMMY® award-winning mandolinist, singer and songwriter, Chris Thile will be performing at Goshen College Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. at Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall as part of its Performing Arts Series.
Chris Thile is a founding member of the critically-acclaimed bands Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek. For four years, Thile hosted public radio favorite Live from Here with Chris Thile (formerly known as A Prairie Home Companion). With his broad outlook, Thile creates a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike.
Chris Thile’s Laysongs is his first truly solo album featuring him on his mandolin, on a set of nine new tracks, combining original songs with three wisely chosen covers that contextualize and banter with his ideas. While Thile’s critically lauded Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1 in 2013 also showcased him on his own, Laysongs offers more of a soliloquy. Thile confronts, cajoles, and cozies up to his personal—and our shared—angels and demons, an effort made more poignant, dramatic, and universal by the enforced isolation of the pandemic.
Tickets are $45, $40 or $30 and are available online at goshen.edu/tickets or at the Box Office (boxoffice@goshen.edu, 574.535.7566)
