Communication Department brings home broadcasting awards for 2022-2023
Students are being recognized for their work with co-curricular programs in the Communication Department: the college’s radio station, 91.1 The Globe, GlobeTV, and video production company, FiveCore Media.
Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts Awards:
Amelia Lee was named the top college disc jockey with her first place award in the On-Air Personality category. This is the second for Amelia and 14th national “Best DJ” award for The Globe across all competitions dating back to 2012. She also received an award of excellence in the Feature Story category for her coverage of Representative Jackie Walorski’s funeral and in the Specialty Program category for her “Breakfast Blend Morning Show.”
Amelia has also been selected by the Broadcast Education Association to receive one of only four Student MMJ positions for this year’s upcoming events. She will be reporting on both the BEA and NAB conferences in Las Vegas, April 13-18.
Michael Murrell, a junior broadcasting major from Mishawaka, Indiana received a third place award in the Specialty Program category for his “Hidden Gems” show.
91.1 The Globe received “Honorable Mention” for the Dr. Marjorie Yambor Signature Station Award. This is the second time the station has been given honorable mention status (2016) with The Globe winning the award in 2017.
Winners for the CBI National Student Production Awards include:
Amelia Lee, a junior year broadcasting major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, received fourth place for Best Audio Newscast.
Dante Stanton, a junior year broadcasting major from Elkhart, Indiana, received second place for Best Audio Sportscast and third place for Best Sports Reporting.
Alyssa McDonald, a sophomore broadcasting major from Salt Lake City, Utah, received second place for Best Audio Feature News Reporting.
Courtney Templeton, a senior film major from St. Louis, Missouri, and Jackson Steinmetz, a senior film major from Bluffton, Ohio, received second place for Best Documentary/Public Affairs.
CMA Pinnacle Awards include:
Amelia Lee received first place for Best Audio Talk/Entertainment Program and third place for Best Audio Newscast.
Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Media Awards:
Amelia Lee (2024) is a national finalist for Best Talk Program, Most Creative/Innovative Show, Best Use of Video in Radio Studio Video, and Best Live Music Broadcast, (with Tyson Miller, 2025, and Seth Smith Kauffman, 2025).
Seth Smith Kauffman, a sophomore communications major from Goshen, Indiana, and Tyson Miller, a sophomore communications major from Syracuse, Indiana, are national finalists for Best Live Broadcast Promotional Event, Best Comedy Program, Best Program Promotion, and Best Morning Show, (with Dante Stanton, 2024).
Dante Stanton (2024) won first place for Best Underwriting Spot and is a national finalist for Best Station or Event Promo, Best Audio Sports Update, Best Video Sports Report, Best Press Release, and Best Sports Pre/Post Game (with Seth Smith Kauffman, 2025), Best Morning Show (with Seth Smith Kauffman, 2025, and Tyson Miller, 2025).
Alyssa McDonald (2025) won first place for Best News Promotion and Best Video News Report.
Lily Herrera, a first-year broadcasting major from Santa Clarita, California and Jasmin Smith, a first-year broadcasting major from Santa Clarita, California are national finalists for Best News Promotion and Best Video Newscast.
Isaac Sawatzky, a sophomore graphic design major from Goshen, Indiana and Cormac Koop Liechty, a sophomore broadcasting major from Goshen, Indiana, are national finalists for Best Station Promotional Poster and Best Show Promotional Poster.
Jeremiah Sherrill, 2023 graduate, is a national finalist for Best Station ID.
Globe Staff won first place for Best Social Media Campaign and are national finalists for Best On-Air Pledge Drive, Best Social Media Account, and Best College/University Radio Station (under 10,000 students). This is the 11th time The Globe has been named a national finalist for best college radio station.
FiveCoreStaff is a national finalist for Best Use of Graphics.

Next Step Radio Scholars:
The College Radio Foundation has awarded two of their inaugural five scholarships to Amelia Lee and Dante Stanton. From their website, “The Next Step Radio (NSR) program was launched last year to help college students who aspire to have a career in radio after graduation. The annual Vinylthon event raises funds for the NSR Scholarships and is designed to give a boost for future broadcasters, and at the same time, expose our industry to young people who want to work in radio and strengthen the industry.” Each scholarship is worth $2,000.

The Goshen College Communication Department has been recognized in the state and nation for its excellence in broadcasting, journalism, speech, film production and writing.
