Amy Gingerich '99
Davis, Calif.
Majors at GC: Bible and religion, communication
Post-graduate education: Courses at Fuller Theological Seminary
At Goshen, Gingerich coveted communication co-curriculars, serving
as WGCS student station manager and Record editor. She said Stuart
Showalter (former professor of communication) pushed her both to
apply for a journalism scholarship and work toward an internship
program.
She landed a competitive South Bend Tribune internship and, upon
graduation, started as a business writer for the Vacaville (Calif.)
Reporter. She is now business editor, writing her own column.
By taking so many classes in different areas from history
to a little bit of science it offers me in my job a lot of
different skills. I am able to use some of those hardcore researching
skills ... and apply those to gathering information, Gingerich
said. I was always interested in somehow finding a job where
I could use communication skills to work in the field of Bible and
religion. In the last six to eight months, I realized I want to
continue taking seminary courses to further strengthen my knowledge
so I can get back into trying to meld those two.
