Alia Byrd, a sophomore elementary education major with a double minor in TESOL and Spanish, was among a group of first-generation students from Indiana’s independent colleges and universities to be celebrated at the 27th annual “Realizing the Dream” banquet on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Indianapolis.
Gilberto Perez, Jr., senior director of intercultural development & educational partnerships at Goshen College, is the recipient of two awards: Teacher of the Year 2016 by the Indiana Governor’s office and the Indiana Latino Expo (ILE) and the 2016 Chickadee Bird Award from the Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance (IUYA).
Goshen College ranked fifth on the U.S. News & World Report list of the "Best Regional Colleges in the Midwest," and 3rd among "Great Schools, Great Prices," according to the annual rankings.
Goshen College was listed third among the “Top 100 National Baccalaureate Colleges” by Washington Monthly magazine, which considers civic engagement, research and social mobility.
Seven Goshen College students have received scholarships from Everence, the financial services organization of Mennonite Church USA. This year, Everence awarded a total of 42 scholarships to college students, ranging from $750 to $2,000.
Students at Goshen College’s video production company, FiveCore Media, have received two Telly Awards and were nominated for a regional Emmy award this spring.
The GC Communication Department includes approximately 50 to 60 students, but more than 100 others contribute to one of the department’s media enterprises — The Record, The Globe, The Correspondent and FiveCore Media.
