They both grew up in Elkhart County just miles apart, were star athletes on competing junior high and high school teams, and graduated from Goshen College the same year. Since then, one spent 23 years in Ireland as a peace scholar and practitioner and the other earned a doctorate at Harvard University and knows 15 languages.
Goshen College recently recognized 212 students, for excellence in academics, on the 2005-06 spring semester Dean's List.
As he started to receive information about political instability in Indonesia and when the country was placed on the list that the U.S. State Department doesn't recommend as travel destinations for U.S. citizens, Goshen College Director of International Education Tom Meyers started to look for another host country in Southeast Asia for groups of students in the college's Study-Service Term (SST) program.
Goshen College recently recognized 175 students for excellence in academics, on the 2005-06 fall semester Dean's List.
When Goshen College's Class of 2009 arrived on campus for Orientation Weekend, Aug. 20-21, there were 14 National Merit Finalists among the group-- twice as many as had ever been in a Goshen College first-year class previously. In addition, among members of the class are a student who showed cows at a state fair, one who turned down a full scholarship to play rugby abroad, and two students who ride unicycles.
In the annually anticipated college ranking release, the 2006 U.S.News & World Report "America's Best Colleges," Goshen College again placed high in the third tier of the category of Best Liberal Arts Colleges for the fifth straight year. Goshen was again recognized for its study abroad program and for being a "least debt" college, among other accolades.
Goshen College has received a letter of formal notification of continued accreditation by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association (NCA). The next comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for 2015.

For the past two summers, Goshen College Assistant Professor of American Sign Language Myron Yoder has taken small groups of students to Jamaica not to discover the island's well-known beaches but to connect with a school for Deaf children and youth.
