Lotus, which includes former GC students Jesse Miller '02, Luke Miller '02 and Mike Rempel, released their new album, Frames Per Second, on Dec. 5. The all-instrumental 19-song studio album and accompanying documentary aims to showcase Lotus in a pure, raw form performing live in the studio.
Joyce Hooley recounts her experience of following her husband abroad with the Peace Corps, her struggle with uprooting her home and career in midlife and her change in identity in her new book: Outside My Skin: My Midlife Detour as a Trailing Spouse in Ghana.
D. Paul Miller '47, 101, Normal, Illinois, passed away Nov. 3, 2018. He is a retired chair of Illinois Wesleyan’s sociology department, known for his physical fitness, winning hundreds of state and national senior olympics medals. His memoir is titled "From the Dust Bowl to the Corn Fields."
J. Mark Ramseyer, Mitsubishi Professor of Japanese Legal Studies at the Harvard Law School, has been conferred with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, by the Japanese government. One of the oldest and highest national decorations, the award recognizes Ramsayer’s extensive contributions to the development of Japanese studies in the U.S. and the promotion of understanding of Japanese society and culture.
Matt Troyer '05 was an extra in Joel and Ethan Coen's Western anthology, “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” which shot parts of the film in Nebraska.
Jonathan Witmer-Rich '97, Cleveland State University Law School professor, is using the hit podcast "Serial" in his classroom. Serials' spotlight on the Cuyahoga County justice system has been the podcasts most popular season, with one-point-five million downloads the first day alone.
Merry Lea Communication Manager Jennifer Schrock '83 writes: "I am left with the puzzle of how to vote for all God’s creation—and all creation yet to come—when climate change is only beginning to make its way into the average voter’s consciousness. None of the people on my ballot has made the environment central to their platform. Neither blue people nor red people have a great track record of boycotting gas pumps."
A three-time All-American while at GC, Justin Gillette '05 currently has 96 marathon wins, and is closing in on his 100th, a feat that would place him into the upper echelon of endurance athletes.
