During Goshen College’s Homecoming Weekend 2013 on Oct. 4-6, the college will honor four exceptional alumni with awards for their commitment to the college’s core values.
Goshen College alumni and friends are warmly invited back to campus for Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 4-6. In addition to reuniting with classmates, highlights of the weekend include the 60th anniversary celebration for the nursing department, a music gala, a hymn sing, an art exhibit, kids' activities, alumni bike ride, alumni author book signings, campus tours, a Frisbee tournament, soccer game and the play “Gadfly: Sam Steiner Dodges the Draft,” a true story about a Goshen alum set primarily at the college.
In 2012 Rachel Halder was in the midst of the worst year of her life, getting therapy for abuse she experienced as a child. On a plane to San Francisco, she had a vivid dream of starting a blog for survivors of sexual violence to tell their stories. It didn’t feel like something she came up with on her own.
Lois Mary Gunden Clemens, a 1936 Goshen College graduate and a French professor at the college from 1939-1941 and 1944-1958, was recently honored as "Righteous Among the Nations" by Yad Vashem, Israel's official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Gunden Clemens is only the fourth American to be recognized with this prestigious honor.
Benjamin Kelly has long had a desire to make his living as a baseball play-by-play announcer.
Samatar’s debut novel "A Stranger in Olondria" appeared in 2013. She began publishing short fiction in 2012, and so far her stories have appeared in Strange Horizons, Clarkesworld, and Apex, among others. She also publishes poetry and book reviews.
Denver-based musician Rachel Eisenstat, a 2006 Goshen College graduate, is using her musical training from the college's Music Department to record her band Raven Jane’s debut album.
Kansas Bible Company, a group that got its start at Goshen College in 2008, has been getting a lot of attention lately.
