John D. Roth, a Goshen College professor of history and director of the Mennonite Historical Library, says that Christian denominations continue to have great relevance despite evidence of declining membership and eroding loyalty to traditional institutions.
Goshen College President James E. Brenneman announced Friday that John D. Yordy, the college's provost and former interim president, will retire June 30. Brenneman also announced that Executive Director of Enrollment Lynn Jackson has been promoted to the new position of vice president for enrollment management and that the president will supervise campus vice presidents starting next month under a new leadership structure.
They both grew up in Elkhart County just miles apart, were star athletes on competing junior high and high school teams, and graduated from Goshen College the same year. Since then, one spent 23 years in Ireland as a peace scholar and practitioner and the other earned a doctorate at Harvard University and knows 15 languages.

The close of this school year marks the retirement of two valued Goshen College faculty. Professor of Psychology Duane Kauffmann completed his 40th year of teaching. Larry Yoder will retire after working 26 years at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College.

After shelving his books in his office and with a full week of work completed as the new president of Goshen College, Dr. James E. Brenneman decided it was time to throw a party. On July 13, he held an "office warming" for all campus faculty, staff and students by inviting them to celebrate this new beginning for him and the college. And while most Old Testament biblical scholars and pastors may be thought of as serious and studious, President Brenneman clearly knows how to appreciate a joyous time.
Goshen College is pleased to announce the appointments of two new faculty members and a transition for a faculty member who will be serving in a new role. Lynn Jackson of Maryland Heights, Mo., will join the college as the executive director of enrollment, and Char Hochstetler of Goshen will serve as associate dean of student services. Bob Yoder of Goshen, an assistant professor and director of youth ministry at Goshen College since 2003, will become the campus minister.
Goshen College is preparing to welcome President-elect James E. Brenneman to campus in July, when he begins his term of leadership, and has announced its plans for inauguration festivities during the first full week of September, highlighted by the installation ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 10.
