Leichty defeated Republican newcomer Benjamin Rogers to become Goshen’s first female mayor. According to the unofficial results, she won with 54% of the vote.
The Performing Arts Series is thrilled to announce the addition of a BONUS CONCERT in the 2023-24 PAS series on May 17 — singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer will make her return to the Sauder Concert Hall stage for a special performance along with The Gathering of Spirits String Quartet. Newcomer is a 1980 Goshen College alum and was the featured speaker at Goshen College’s 118th Commencement ceremony in 2016.
Goshen College will present the 20th annual musical celebration of Christmas, “A Festival of Carols,” a special celebration that features four choirs and an orchestra, along with audience participation on traditional carols, all in a concert hall festively decorated with garlands, lights and trees. “A Festival of Carols” is patterned on a traditional English worship service, and features Christmas carols, spirituals, scripture readings and sacred works of music for the holiday season. Performers include the Goshen College Chamber Choir, Vox Profundi, Voices of the Earth, Goshen College Symphony Orchestra and Shout For Joy Children’s Choir. The audience will also be invited to join the choirs to sing familiar carols during the performance. Tickets are now available for any of the three performances on Dec. 1, 2 or 3.
The Goshen College Art Faculty & Retired Faculty Exhibit will open with a reception and artist talk on Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Music Center's Hershberger Art Gallery. The exhibit runs until January 14, 2024.
African American juniors and seniors in high school can visit Goshen College on Nov. 18 and take a tour of the campus. They will receive information about financial aid and how to register for college. Students will have the opportunity to meet African American faculty & staff on campus and have lunch with fellow attendees. Lunch will be provided followed by a basketball game and tailgate.
Lavender Jazz is Goshen College’s “big band” jazz ensemble. This student ensemble will perform their fall concert of jazz charts and standards on Nov. 17. They are directed by Greg Smucker.
The Youth Honors Orchestra, a youth instrumental ensemble featuring community players grades 7-12, is conducted by Viktoria Petrak and will perform Nov. 14.
Come learn why one of Goshen College’s master’s programs in Nursing, Environmental Education, Business or Social Work might be the perfect next step on Nov. 14 from 5-6 p.m. in Newcomer Center Room 19. Professors from each of the programs will be on hand to answer questions. Food provided.
Three youth choirs in the Community School of the Arts will perform on Nov. 12 as part of the annual CSA Fall Choral Showcase Concert. Performing are Rejoice (grades 3-5) and Sommo Voci (grades 9-12), directed by Kristin Kauffman, and Shout for Joy (grades 6-8), directed by Sandy Hill.
