Residents of Elkhart County as well as members of the Mennonite church and the Goshen College community praised President Emeritus J. Lawrence Burkholder as a visionary leader with an enduring love for the church, his family and scholarship during a memorial service Wednesday, June 30.

Goshen College President Emeritus J. Lawrence Burkholder, an influential figure in the Mennonite church, passed away early on Thursday, June 24 at the Greencroft Healthcare Center in Goshen. Burkholder, 92, played many significant roles throughout the 20th century as a pastor, professor, pilot, philosopher, civil rights activist, war-time relief worker and college president.

Jim Brenneman reappointed to second term as Goshen College president

James E. Brenneman has been reappointed to a second term as president of Goshen College by the college's Board of Directors at its February meeting — a decision recently approved by the Mennonite Education Agency (MEA) Board of Directors.

President Brenneman releases statement as national anthem is played on campus

History was made today at Goshen College as the national anthem was played before two sports events for the first time since intercollegiate athletics began at the college in 1957. The anthem was played before a 1 p.m. baseball team doubleheader against Siena Heights University and softball team doubleheader against St. Joseph's College at 3 p.m.

Jim Caskey is named vice president for institutional advancement

Goshen College President Jim Brenneman named Jim Caskey as the new vice president for institutional advancement, a key position on the President’s Council. Caskey started working at Goshen College in 1997 in the Development Office, and most recently served as interim vice president for several months. He will begin in this new role on Jan. 1, 2010.
