Goshen College President James Brenneman celebrated the leadership, vision and ideals of Martin Luther King Jr. in three commentary columns published over the weekend in local newspapers.
The year 2006 was a good one for new Goshen College President James Brenneman, he said during his opening convocation for the college's spring semester on Jan. 10. He noted, facetiously, that - like every other reader of the magazine - he was named "Time" magazine's Person of the Year for 2006.
Dr. James E. Brenneman, president of Goshen College, announced creation of the Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning at Goshen College. Lilly Endowment Inc. will fund the new center with a $12.5 million grant – the largest single grant Goshen College has ever received – which will focus on three areas: researching the resources and challenges that changing demographics bring to a rural Midwest community and to higher education, creating an intercultural learning environment to benefit all students and strengthening current efforts in recruiting and retaining regional Latino and other minority students.
The inauguration of Goshen College's 16th president, Dr. James E. Brenneman, filled a weekend with moments of great laughter, joy and celebration, but also of great ritual, worship and tradition.

After shelving his books in his office and with a full week of work completed as the new president of Goshen College, Dr. James E. Brenneman decided it was time to throw a party. On July 13, he held an "office warming" for all campus faculty, staff and students by inviting them to celebrate this new beginning for him and the college. And while most Old Testament biblical scholars and pastors may be thought of as serious and studious, President Brenneman clearly knows how to appreciate a joyous time.
