College students prep for a lifetime of church engagement as delegates in Pittsburgh

In a time when many churches are experiencing a decline in youth membership, eight Goshen College students will have the opportunity to be engaged with the inner workings of Mennonite Church USA during the July 4-9 Adult Delegate Assembly in Pittsburgh. The students will represent churches and conferences from five different states as they participate in discussions about policy issues and vote on new resolution amendments, prepping them for a lifetime of church involvement.

Goshen College bids farewell to five retiring faculty members

Five faculty members are saying farewell to Goshen College at the end of the 2010-2011 school year as they retire and begin the next chapters in their lives. The five retirees are John Blosser, professor of art; Rafael Falcón, professor of Spanish; Mervin Helmuth, associate professor of nursing; David Miller, associate professor of biology; and David Janzen, director of human resources and affirmative action officer. Together, they have served a total of 119.5 years at Goshen College.

Goshen College Board of Directors ask for alternative to playing the national anthem

The Goshen College Board of Directors announced today that it has asked President James E. Brenneman to find an alternative to playing the Star-Spangled Banner that fits with sports tradition, that honors country and that resonates with Goshen College's core values and respects the views of diverse constituencies.

Quilts featuring fabrics from Senegal on display in new exhibit

Irene Bornman, of Goshen, brought pieces of Senegal back to Indiana with her when she returned from her nine-year stay in Senegal. Using locally acquired fabrics from markets in Senegal and Mali, Bornman made a variety of comforters and quilts, which will be on display in Goshen College's Good Library Gallery starting May 8 in the exhibit, "Senegal Fabric in Indiana Patchwork: The Quilts of Irene Bornman."

Muslim on a Mennonite campus

While differences between Christians and Muslims have caused significant global conflict, two Muslim international students - Mohammad Rasoulipour and Mohamed Meissara - are finding the Christian campus at Goshen College to be a place of peace, understanding and acceptance as they focus on commonalities.

Marjory Byler, a human rights activist and organizational consultant, will present a commencement address, titled "There is a crack in everything," at the 113th Goshen College commencement on Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m. in the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center.

Goshen College announces 2011-12 Performing Arts Series lineup

The 2011-12 season of the Goshen College Performing Arts Series will again bring extraordinary and top quality arts performances to the college, including Manhattan Transfer; Mary Chapin Carpenter; Carolina Chocolate Drops; Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg; Choral Masterpieces With Vance George, Toledo Symphony and GC Choirs; Mark O'Conner Hot Swing; and Cherish The Ladies. Goshen College launches institutes focused on ecological regeneration, Latino educational achievement and global Anabaptism

An "exciting new chapter" has begun at Goshen College, according to the college's President James E. Brenneman on March 24 as he launched three institutes, all focused on the college's distinctive academic strengths as they relate to faith.
