A Celebration of Life service for Anita Stalter is scheduled for Sunday, February 2, at 2 p.m. at Goshen Theater (216 S. Main Street, Goshen, Ind.). After the service, there will be a “Cinnamon Rolls and Stories” sharing time.
Goshen College has announced the approval of a new Master of Arts in Teaching program by the Education and Deaf Studies Department, and will begin admitting students for the fall of 2025. This program is designed to address the need for qualified educators in the United States, particularly in Indiana, where teacher shortages have reached alarming levels.

Jakyra Green, a senior majoring in education and English, is among the 10 finalists who will participate in the 37th annual Keating Writing Challenge in which the students have five hours to report and write a story. The contest, which draws top journalism students from across the state, will take place in Indianapolis on Nov. 3-4.
Goshen College senior Jakyra Green’s speech claimed first prize in Mennonite Central Committee’s binational intercollegiate C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest, after winning at Goshen College’s contest in February 2023. Green’s speech, titled “The Privilege of Peace,” focused on the illusion or privilege surrounding peace for Black people and their realities in America.
GC alum Lena Charles '18 was named “Teacher of the Year” at Dallas Independent School District’s Price Career Institute. Charles, who is in her third year at the school, teaches Spanish and is the “SEL champion.”
In response to the current teacher shortage, Goshen College is now offering an online evening track for its Transition to Teaching program. Previously, students enrolled in GC’s Transition to Teaching program would attend classes on campus during the daytime.
Goshen College has been named as one of 26 recipients of the 2021 Frank Murray Leadership Recognition for Continuous Improvement by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Two cohorts of future educators are currently enrolled at Goshen College through Teach Elkhart County, a program that recruits, prepares, places, and retains students from underrepresented groups in Elkhart County.
