Research as storytelling: Goshen Spotlight Documentaries

Led by Associate Professor of Communication Kyle Hufford since 2013, the multi-year Goshen Spotlight Documentaries project provides students with a unique platform to engage in experiential research while contributing to the community archive. Conducted within the college’s Maple Scholars summer research program, students dive into a topic of their choosing, from local histories to contemporary issues, using the lens of documentary filmmaking to explore their community.

Communication Department to host annual Short Film Festival on April 25

The Goshen College Communication Department will be hosting its fourth annual Short Film Festival at the Goshen Theater in downtown Goshen at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. This event is an opportunity for GC film production students to premiere short films they have been working on throughout the school year, including two senior capstone projects. The event is free and open to the public.

Goshen College wins Indiana Radio and Video School of the Year awards again

On Saturday, March 23, Communication students traveled to Carmel, Indiana for the annual Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) College Awards Luncheon and Indiana Broadcasters Association’s (IBA) Spring Career Fair. The college landed 31 awards, including 9 first place honors across the competition against 14 of the top media colleges in the state. Most notably, GC was awarded the Radio and Video School of the Year by the IASB.

91.1 The Globe was named “Radio Station of the Year” for institutions with enrollments under 3,000 students by the College Media Association with their Pinnacle Award at their annual National College Media Convention in Atlanta in October. This is the first organizational Pinnacle Award for The Globe and the station’s fifth national title.

WGCS named ‘Radio School of the Year’ for the fourth consecutive year

The Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) has named 91.1 FM The Globe (WGCS) “Radio School of the Year” for the fourth consecutive time in the college division, with a flurry of awards in 11 of 14 categories. This is the eighth title in the past 11 years for the radio station.
