Goshen College invites prospective students interested in pursuing careers in content creation, television and radio broadcasting, filmmaking, journalism, writing, marketing and public relations to join communication department students, faculty and staff for an immersive experience in the award-winning communication department.
The Goshen College Voices of the Earth choir will spend their spring break touring and performing in churches and schools across the Midwest from Feb. 25 to March 3, with a home concert on Sunday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall.
Mary K. Oyer, professor emerita of music, died on January 11, 2024, in Goshen at the age of 100. Oyer taught at Goshen College from 1945 to 1987, during which time she developed a Fine Arts course that became legendary among students and was instrumental in bringing wide recognition and acceptance of the fine arts in a Mennonite liberal arts education.
Goshen College's annual “Festival of Carols” program will again air this year on PBS television stations across Indiana.
91.1 The Globe was named “Radio Station of the Year” for institutions with enrollments under 3,000 students by the College Media Association with their Pinnacle Award at their annual National College Media Convention in Atlanta in October. This is the first organizational Pinnacle Award for The Globe and the station’s fifth national title.
In this fall’s mainstage play, “Twelfth Night: Or What You Will,” the Goshen College Theater Department draws inspiration from post-punk youth culture in London, circa 1980, giving a new setting to the classic Shakespeare gender-bending romantic comedy. It will be performed on Friday, Nov. 10; Saturday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 12 and 19 at 2:30 p.m. in Umble Center.
Jakyra Green, a senior majoring in education and English, is among the 10 finalists who will participate in the 37th annual Keating Writing Challenge in which the students have five hours to report and write a story. The contest, which draws top journalism students from across the state, will take place in Indianapolis on Nov. 3-4.
Goshen College senior Jakyra Green’s speech claimed first prize in Mennonite Central Committee’s binational intercollegiate C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest, after winning at Goshen College’s contest in February 2023. Green’s speech, titled “The Privilege of Peace,” focused on the illusion or privilege surrounding peace for Black people and their realities in America.
Marlin L. Jeschke, professor emeritus of philosophy and religion, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, in Goshen. He was 94 years old. A lifelong student and teacher, Jeschke taught courses on Christian faith, religion in America and Asian religions at Goshen College from 1961 to 1994.
Martha Smith Good, DMin, of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada; Peter Stucky, MDiv, of Bogotá, Colombia; and J. Denny Weaver, PhD, of Madison, Wisconsin; are the 2023 recipients of Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary’s (AMBS) Alumni Ministry and Service Recognition.
