Afternoon Sabbatical series kicks off with conversation on child abuse
The 2013-14 line-up for the Afternoon Sabbatical series, featuring lectures, performances and special trips, has been announced by Goshen College. The series will kick off with a lecture and discussion titled “Protecting Our Children – a Broad Perspective” by Candy Yoder, president and CEO of Child and Parent Services (CAPS) in Elkhart.


Lewis, North America Brass Company to perform arrangements for tuba
Goshen College adjunct music instructor and tubist Roger Lewis will present a music recital in Rieth Recital Hall on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m.


Red Campion Vocal Quartet to open 2014-15 Goshen College concert season
The 2014-15 Goshen College Faculty Recital Series will open on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 with a performance by visiting artists and vocal quartet Red Campion. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall.


Auditions for Community School of the Arts ensembles to be held in August and September
Auditions for Community School of the Arts choral and instrumental ensembles will be held in the Goshen College Music Center in August and September. Choral ensembles are open by audition for students in grades 3-12, and instrumental ensembles by audition for students in grades 7-12.


Play tells stories of Mennonite women of color
Heavenly Voices, a play featuring stories of Mennonite women of color, will be coming to Goshen College on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.

Events in September 2013 include a Wailin' Jennys concert, an Afternoon Sabbatical on child maltreatment and a gallery of art from the Michiana Pottery Tour.


Learn survival skills: Merry Lea to offer wilderness first aid course
Merry Lea will host its annual Wilderness First Aid Workshop on Thursday and Friday, August 29 and 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Instructor Jacob Guiser, from the SOLO School of Emergency Medicine and Rescue in Conway, N.H., will teach the 16-hour course.

What do you do when a medical emergency happens in a remote location? Would you recognize the signs of hypothermia in your scouting troop? How would you handle a sprained ankle on a family backpacking trip? Merry Lea will host its annual wilderness first aid workshop on Thursday and Friday, August 28 and 29, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.


Exhibit explores Mennonite identity through commercial objects
A variety of mugs, plates and T-shirts that explore Mennonite identity will be on display in the Harold and Wilma Good Library basement gallery at Goshen College.


Community School of the Arts to hold auditions for community youth and high school choirs
The Goshen College Community School of the Arts (CSA) will hold auditions Aug. 19-20 for youth who wish to sing in the organization’s children’s choirs. CSA offers two community choirs for young children: Rejoice, directed by Kristin Kauffman, for students in grades 3-5, and Shout for Joy, directed by Sandy Hill, for students in grades 6-8.
