Marvin Bartel, professor emeritus of art at Goshen College, who became a regional and national leader in ceramics, creativity and art education, died on Monday, November 18. He was 87 and taught from 1970 to 2002.
Mennonite Church USA arranged for a sculpture designed and built by Emma Zuercher, a 2023 graduate of Goshen College from Apple Creek, Ohio, under the mentorship of John Mishler, sculptor and Goshen College associate professor of art.
This summer, connections between the local art scene and Goshen College were highlighted with the opening of the Elkhart County Art Trail from Epic Art Adventures, which longtime associate professor of art and nationally-renowned sculptor John Mishler ’79 served as “artist-curator”.
Four professors said farewell to Goshen College this summer as they retire and begin the next chapters in their lives. Together, they have served a total of 111 years, and an average of approximately 28 years at Goshen College.
Seven Goshen College senior art majors will showcase their work in the Music Center’s Hershberger Art Gallery between March 9 and April 13.
The Goshen College Art Department and art club are co-sponsoring a themed student art exhibit in the Harold and Wilma Good Library basement gallery at Goshen College. The exhibit, based on the theme “recycled,” opened on Nov. 28 and will be on display through Feb.19, 2014.
