Five Goshen College students will present speeches during the 2017 C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Umble Center
With her speech titled “Privatizing agony, protecting sacred waters,” Noemi Salvador won the top prize of $500 and a chance to enter her speech in the bi-national intercollegiate oratorical contest. Salvador spoke about the privatization of water resources and its effect on communities.
Speaking on “Laos’ history of war: The need for UXO removal,” Goshen College sophomore Jacob Putnam, from Chicago, Ill., placed first in Goshen College’s 2013 C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest on Feb. 19.
Goshen College Professor of History John D. Roth will present the 2013 C. Henry Smith Peace Lecture on Tuesday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Goshen College Administration Building Room 28. Roth will speak on “A New Martyr’s Mirror for the 21st Century?” The lecture and Q&A is free and open to the public.
