In his retirement, Byron Yake '61 started "Write on Sports," a summer journalism camp where urban middle-school students would write articles after attending sports events or interviewing athletes.
As part of the Goshen Write on Sports camp, thirteen students from area schools joined a teaching staff of five to interview athletes, research and publish feature articles, and edit and produce videos over the course of two weeks on GC’s campus.
United Way of Elkhart County provided a $2,500 Innovation Grant in support of the two-week Write on Sports camp for middle-school students this summer.
Write on Sports, which one Goshen seventh-grader described as the “best camp ever,” is accepting applications from students who will be entering seventh and eighth grades. The second annual Write on Sports camp will be held at Goshen College from July 7 through 18.
