16 Goshen Students in Lima, safe and sound!
We are delighted to announce the safe arrival of 16 GC students to Lima! 12 women and 4 men landed at Jorge Chavez Airport at 12:30 this morning, quite tired and also very excited. They were greeted by Kris Schmidt, current SST leader, and Celia Vasquez, our amazing local coordinator. (Note: Kathryn, Kris’s wife stayed behind at Casa Goshen with sons Jonah and Zachary.)
They were delighted to feel the Peruvian summer temperature upon arrival: balmy high 70’s.
After a wait at customs, and then again for their luggage, and a final stop at security, the group was whisked away to their hostel, Casa Rodas, by a chartered bus. While on the bus they were given snacks, water, and some useful information. The bus traveled along the ocean, and up the massive cliffs to beautiful Miraflores. One student exclaimed, “I’m so excited to finally be on MY SST!”
They climbed into bed shortly after 2:00 a.m., excited to wake up bright and early and get started.
Tomorrow, it’s a full day of getting-to-know-each-other activities, and orientation on how to approach this magnificent city of (just under) 10 million beautiful people.
Hasta pronto!
