Our host Hortensia cooked a fish dinner for the group. Jonah enjoys the Chancay coast north of Lima. Several hours north of Lima the group spent the night at Albufera Medio Mundo nature preserve. Guide Rolando informed the group that Peru has more bird species than the United States. On Thursday the group visited the Caral archeological site. The guide explained that Caral’s civilization existed 5000 years ago. Stuart admires the largest of the excavated pyramids. Alyssa, Lydia, and Josh Racheal Ann enjoys the sun while others huddle in the shade after a hike down from Caral. Brooklyn and Erika attracted a crowd of school children on a field trip to the convent of Santo Domingo in Lima. Joining a display about Las Tapadas, the veiled women of colonial Lima, Stephanie bared one eye. In the room devoted to San Martin de Porres, Martin delivered a speech about this legendary healer.
