Holy Week or Passion Week marks the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Good Friday, the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, is a campus holiday. This chapel service will draw from our GC online devotions’ theme of ” Holding On and Letting Go.” This service will include a time for anointing.

President Brenneman will introduce two thoughtful and prayerful perspectives on the playing of the national anthem at Goshen. Part of the ongoing structured dialogue that will take place over this issue through June 2011. After discussing the importance of respectfully addressing complex issues, President Brenneman will introduce two faculty members, Professor of Education and Department Chair Kathy Meyer Reimer and Professor of Peace, Justice & Conflict Studies and Department Chair Joe Liechty, who will discuss the national anthem.

GC alum Dawit Yehualashet Kebede co-authored this lecture. He will present it along with Prof. Shetler. This convocation is part of the annual C. Henry Smith Peace lectureship.

As part of GSWA-sponsored Healthy Bodies Week, join us for chapel as we focus on the goodness of our bodies and the truth that we are beloved by God and created in the image of God, no matter what we look like, what pain our body has endured, etc.

Jane Stoltzfus Buller, a local pastor at Walnut Hill Mennonite Church and mother of a current GC student and two recent graduates, will share parts of her faith journey as well as how she works at interpreting scripture. The way a story can change reflects change in ourselves. We see something new and are shaken out of the familiar into the unfamiliar. As our life continues, the unfamiliar becomes the familiar and we are shaken again. It is the presence of God in the story.

Dr. David Ostergren is director of the masters program in environmental education, based at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center. In this convocation he will tell us about his vocational journey and about the graduate program that he directs. See his website for more information about him.

John is an ordained minister of the Church of Scotland and a Member of the Iona Community. After a period in the Netherlands and two posts in church youth work, he became employed full time in the areas of music and worship with the Wild Goose Resource Group. He is a past convenor of the Church of Scotland’s Panel on Worship and presently convenes the Committee revising the Church Hymnary.John has produced (some in collaboration with Graham Maule), many collections of original hymns and songs and two collections of songs of the World Church. These are published by the Iona Community in Scotland and by G.I.A. Publications (Chicago) in N. America. He is an occasional broadcaster, lectures in theological colleges in Britain and U.S., but is primarily concerned with the renewal of congregational worship at grass roots level.

Ross Peterson-Veatch and the General Education Review Task Force will engage us in another look at the Goshen College core curriculum that is being developed.

Evans is an award-winning documentary photographer based in Chicago. She is serving as this year’s Eric Yake Kenagy memorial art lecturer.

The 2009 Camping Inquiry Program participants will lead our chapel service this morning sharing faith stories, fun songs, and other interesting tidbits about their ventures. Also on hand will be a number of Mennonite camp directors encouraging you to explore a possible job with them this summer.
