Holy Week or Passion Week marks the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Good Friday, the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, is a campus holiday. This chapel service will call Christians to focus on the most important week of Jesus’ life. It will include an anointing service, and features GC’s Women’s World Music Choir.

Leaders of Mennonite World Conference [MWC], to be held July 2009 in Asuncion, Paraguay. Speakers to include: Margaret Peacock who says, “I am an Indian aged 60 born in a village in South India. I joined MCC [Mennonite World Conference] as a receptionist and worked for 38 years. I belong to a small Mennonite Church…started as a house church 26 years ago in my own house” and Tigist Tesfaye who says, “I’m from Ethiopia, home for 88 milliion people with more than 80 different ethnicities. I’m a member of the Mennonite Church in Ethiopia [and] served as a youth leader, choir leader and discipleship teacher in my home congregation. I am currently serving as an MWC one-year intern for the Mennonite Central Committee at the MCC Liaison Office at the United Nations in New York City.”
Bonus Convocation: “From Rural Mexico to the Indiana Statehouse” – Juana Watson, Senior Advisor for Latino Affairs to Gov. Mitch Daniels
Watson’s story has appeared in newspapers throughout the nation and in Guideposts magazine. Watson, who pulled herself up from the poverty of Calnali, Mexico, now works to help others improve their lives. She is a senior advisor to Indiana governor Mitch Daniels and is an important partner for the Goshen College Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning.

The Amish: Tradition and Change in the 21st Century – Professor of History Steve Nolt. Known for preserving traditional ways, the Amish are also a dynamic people who change and adapt in the face of modernity. Steve Nolt, author of Amish Grace: How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy which explores the aftermath of the 2006 Nickel Mines school shooting, will highlight recent developments in Amish society including population growth, occupational change, and schooling.
