To mark U.S. Constitution Day (September 17), the history department has invited attorney Lee Roy Berry, Jr. to speak in this convocation. Berry is African-American and is retired from teaching political science courses at Goshen College.

Convocation: Peter Yarrow and Mark Weiss discuss Operation Respect
Join as Goshen College welcomes Peter Yarrow of the famous folk trio, “Peter, Paul, and Mary.” Peter and colleague Mark Weiss, Director of Education for Operation Respect will make a presentation about Operation Respect, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting safe, caring and compassionate environments for children and youth.
Convocation: “Debt: An Interdisciplinary Conversation”
A panel of faculty members from different departments will contribute perspectives on a topic relevant to college students. They will respond to a book by anthropologist and economist David Graeber titled “Debt: The First 5000 Years.” Panel members are Jan Shetler (history), Jim Halteman (economics), Jo-Ann Brant (religion), Regina Shands Stoltzfus (peace studies), and Jonathan Schramm (ecology).

Convocation: “Faith in Hard Times: Collecting Inspiring Stories around the World” – Prof. John D. Roth
John D. Roth, professor of history and director of the Mennonite Historical Library, will give the annual C. Henry Smith Peace lecture Tuesday night. This convocation is a preview of that presentation, which describes an initiative that is gathering stories of persecution and faithfulness in Anabaptist churches around the globe. The end product may be a new Martyr’s Mirror for the 21st century.
